Willow Switch Review

Holy texture! Upon first listening to those Willow Switches, “The Reaper He Will Come And The Havest He Will Bring” I was overwhelmed. The music filled my chest and I free from all my anxieties for a solid 3 minutes and 55 seconds.
I was held by this piece of art for a moment. The gentle sway of the perussion and the repeated line “will be our home” gives a cradling effect that was warm and loving. In fact, the ambience of this piece is filled with warmth: from the choice of instrumentation, like cnadlelight and brown sugar, the strings, the big hollow drum, the scattered claps and snaps. Sounds as though this song was written to be listened to during the autumn, making its release date so perfect for the transition into the fall.

The vocal layering at the end of this song deserves to be mentioned on its own as the stylistic choices are something to behold. Two unique voices differing in timbre and tone sing the same line against each other. One sounding like its calling out from the distance, the other captivating me, front and centre.

Not only are the instrumentation and vocals fantastic, the structure of the song is flawless. The build and release stand strong, making the song an easy and exciting listen. Willow Switch is truly a treasure and we can’t wait to hear what’s coming next.

Recommended if you like wicker baskets, the film Midsommar by Ari Aster, sitting around the campfire, brisk fall evenings/dawns, chicken soup after a walk in the cold, and bands like Crywank, Mischief Brew, and Bridge City Sinners
