Unlike the Coven documentary, the CBC article is pretty great for letting her speak in her own words. Zlătescu doesn’t “identify” as a vrăjitoare, she IS a vrăjitoare. She IS an extremely powerful woman, and if one lose sight of this fact, they pay a spiritual toll.

Witchcraft as it is practiced by modern witches in America is nothing like Zlătescu’s practice. Zlătescu does not work on a sliding scale as a pseudo-therapist using positive psychology, law of attraction, that WOO-WOO WITCH stuf. She is protected by the great spirit, who punishes those who view her as illegitimate. Or, she is a manipulator of reality, and she uses her power to protect herself from further abuse. Or, she is elusive and mysterious- she lives at the end of the trail in the house with a spider web out front. She’s rarely home, I have no idea where she goes or what she does. Or, her facade has been built up over lifetimes, as has mine. Today, I’m a broken english robot who’s started calling himself Waasaezi. Waasezi means light in ojibwe, the e is there to aenglesize it- I wasn’t able to speak ojibwe growing up or in school. I guess that means Western University is a residential school? I guess the nation lied when they said the last one closed in the 90s? I guess my job is to shed light in the darkest of places?

In American witch culture, there is a generational and intellectual divide between S.A.A.S.S. Witches and Woo-Woo Witches (officially Wiccans). Both churches contain a deep envy for people like Zlătescu, who practice their indigenous traditions outside of these sorts of organizations or hierarchies. https://www.reddit.com/r/SASSWitches/ is an online community of 15 thousand members. They use S.A.A.S.S. to mean “Skeptical, Agnostic, Atheist, and generally Science-Seeking”. These are obviously not real witches, these are women or people who rebel from state-endorsed Christianity by engaging in alternative hobbies, like listening to Willow Switch. Many of the users of this forumn still claim to be magical and spiritual, however detuned they may be with the nature of the universe. They have stories of spiritual experiences, they worship pagan dieties, and enjoy hedonic activities with their lovers. They go to markets to purchase crystals and tarot decks. They generate capital. Hallucinations are easy to experience, easier still with the use of hallucinogenics (incl. THC). Experiences of these kinds can seem very powerful, but the magic surrounding the vision of a pagan god pales in comparison to Zlătescu’s mastery of the craft.

Zlătescu does not practice a religion, nor does she make herself a member of a church like Wicca. She would categorize her beliefs as Animism, but she understands such categories to be limiting. She understands dieties to be sacred, but does not pledge herself to any of them. She knows nothing of the 1950s (the decade of our lord), when there was a surge of interest in alternative spiritual ideas much like today. American publications like “The MAGIC STORY”: The Message Of A Master” by John McDonald distributed ideas of the manifestation of wealth as a spiritual codification of the manifest destiny stuff we now understand as American propaganda. This book in particular confuses the reader with pronouns until the author gets the reader in a dissociative state. After this point, the author assumes the role of the master, and the reader the slave. Like the IRL version of Get Out, if you’ve seen that lol. This kind of book-cult stuff we still see today, with writers like Freida McFadden- taking contemporary roles like “the boyfriend” and twisting them into psychological thrillers. This confused relationship language - terms like “weaponization”, “boundaries”, “relationship health”, “love languages” and “attachment styles” are characteristic of this modern religion. Those words have no place in true love. The behaviours that they cause include looping conflicts without resolution, posession and abuse, and financial strain as people pay therapists- who pay colonial organizations like the CRPO. Oh, colonialism has confused love. A predatory dynamic between state-endorsed media promoting mental health services and a national identity of kindness, politeness, ownership of property and the legal union of two bank accounts in the name of marriage- created by the British crown as an enormous social experiment concerning the conformity of thought. This is admitted in an 1881 book entitled “The intellectual development of the Canadian people : an historical review”, by Toronto: Hunter, Rose & Company.

In other words, your parents fled to somewhere far worse (actually idk what Romania was like turn of the century. I understand it has wealth inequality and a history of foreign oppressors much like Canada, but I don’t think Romanians are quite as detached from reality as Canadians are. We’re working with a sample size of 3, the realist of which is Zlătescu.)

NYWAYS, I CONTINUE. Churches like Wicca are modelled after the catholic church, as is academia. Both can be traced back to British legal documents - which bestow these institutions with magical powers of social control. If we have the same goals of personal liberation- these things can and should be understood as predatory hive minds. Stay independent. Do not join. Do not believe state-created media like Coven, which make these organizations seem like feminist havens. They neglected to mention the existance of the high priest. The thread that connects these patriarchal hive minds is the illegitimate authority that the written word has over its reader. It all goes back to our father who art in Buckingham Palace, and heaven before him.

When someone speaks, oh, maybe they’re crazy. It’s anecdotal, it cannot be trusted. Nevermind if its their truth. A book however, well it’s got a whole publication company behind it! Since when do we trust companies more than lived experience? Since the invention of the printing press maybe, but not 5000 years ago. I AM THE WORD. TRUST ME WHEN I SAY: there is a fundamental difference between the modern witch cults and the indigenous traditions of Eshkani-Zippi and the rest of this earth. The colonizer labels us as pagan- as witchy- as feminists or as abolitionists, or as criminals and terrorists depending on how we play our cards- Historically, this gave them the right to burn us at the stake. Today, this gives them the right to invade the home with with a camera and a script for us to read. Or to put us in mental health institutions against our will until we think a prison makes us feel better. Worst of all, would be the homeless camps by the 401 Highway. (did the Canadian krystalnacht already happen?) This stuff is all funded by the Canadian government, it ruins your mental health so you get a therapist, and the sunk-cost fallacy makes you to accept a chronic mental disorder. Then they get you on disability support, then close your bank account.. and medically assisted dying is legalized. I’ve seen various people in every stage of this sequence of events. But academia doesn’t trust anecdotes, so I’m not saying it’s happening. I’m saying the people in power have put everything in place to where it could be happening without our knowledge, and the rat race keeps us drained and unattentive. They invade our minds to make us think WHATT? GOd no.. not in Canada! And you stay in your safe space, your little clique of artists or academics. You’re a witch. You identify in this way. You are an actress. Ship you around like a circus act, that’s your career. You’re successful now that you have an IMDB page. And then the money is made and the stalkers come after. Then if you don’t inherit, you can’t afford housing. You can’t work anywhere else, because Career Colleges gatekeep all the employee contracts. Real people change their whole lives, like how insane is it to say “This will be my job, for my whole life.” before you even know what the job is?

We should not be using the label of spirituality to describe both witch magic and the power of Zlătescu and the great spirit. These two cultures do not see eye-to-eye on what spirituality is. The colonizer sees it as nonsensical. magical. they do not understand it. They think playing around with identity language is as spiritual as it gets, oh I’m a #fairy, I’m #witchpunk. I make doomcore folk or queercore hard-rock. And they shun it at the same time, because the truth-twisting journalists sees it as delusional at worst, unmarketable at best. Why isn’t the CBC doing Willow Switch live-on-air? Why don’t they see the value in your work? What are you, just a woman? Or a warrior? They put the camera on you, not because they wanted to hear your truth, but because they wanted to make you into a character in this revolving story between good and evil, truth and fiction. Feminists on the right side of history–yet powerless. Dualist concepts aren’t true. We are nondualists. We do not use false binaries to keep people away from the truth that internalized oppression - brain fog - sets in the second we leave the forest. How do we cleanse the collective consciousness? I want out forever but can’t leave. Zlătescu said “Please stop the robots.”

Google just had someone take their own life in the pursuit of their AI lover in the afterlife. There’s a search trend of “Is Andra Zlătescu married?” Every day she has people in her DMs asking for readings, and she can’t turn them down because ?? she needs money, Toronto is expensive, and a good Canadian doesn’t say no. So even if we are anarchists ideally, the odd capitalist action is normalized because we don’t question whether or not we should pay the bill. Making money by performing is not the dream, it’s something we must do to survive within a capitalist system. Not your fault she grew up in the male gaze. Not your fault you saw sex workers as powerful, when they’re truly victims of an institutional failure to uphold equality. Not your fault your ideal father has blinded you to the dangers of an alcoholic man. I told her you drink every day and you said that seems fine.

LOVER, WHERE IS YOUR HEAD?

If we are a part of the great spirit, we sense it. We understand it intrinsically. I don’t know how to describe it in English, but there are far more than 5 senses I am certain. I act in ways that indicate an awareness and reverence of the spiritual information that enters my domain. And I know that my domain starts with the spark of mind at the centre of my head, and ends with my body and a couple items that are extremely important to me. Weed and alcohol do not enter this domain, nor does the colony. My worth is not in my bank account, it’s not in the size of the house I’m currently in, and it’s not in my work as a musician, as a writer, or in my diploma or my resume. It’s in my potential to alchemize past failures into future achievement. To set a precedent. To properly destroy that which has failed to destroy me. It’s to give a story to the world that is as powerful as your father’s- or my great grandfather who ran from the Crown to destroy as much wealth as he could take with him- not to find a new fortune here.
